About the Course

Overview

For newly promoted supervisors, reframing workplace friendships into positive and productive superior/subordinate relationships can be challenging. It requires deftly honed communication and problem-solving skills.

In this session, participants will learn to leverage their core competencies in order to delegate their staff of former peers. The building blocks of supervisory excellence will be addressed, including giving performance feedback, setting boundaries and expectations, and engaging and motivating staff. Discussions on managing change also will be introduced.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to

  • Differentiate the role of “supervisor” from that of “friend”
  • Identify one’s supervisory strengths and roadblocks and develop one’s own management style
  • Build trust and gain respect with feedback that inspires achievement
  • Recognize and manage the various work and personality styles of employees to build a stronger team
  • Communicate effectively with former peers to establish boundaries for a new normal
